Meet the Signing Dream Team!
Amy: Hi! My name is Amy (she/her) and I’m a sophomore in the College from Silver Spring, Maryland who is (likely!) majoring in Visual Studies. I am minoring in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies and am very interested in ASL, Deaf culture, and signed language acquisition. I have taken ASL since my sophomore year of high school, and I’m looking forward to learning more about how our brains process signed languages.
Nam: Hey everyone! I am Nam and I am a junior at Penn studying Neuroscience from New York City! I am minoring in American Sign Language which is why I am so interested and passionate about how sign language is coded in the brain and why it is beneficial for everyone to learn sign language! Can’t wait to learn more about Sign Language and the Brain!
Ashley: Hey! I’m Ashley (she/her), and I’m a senior from Dallas, Texas. I am majoring in Psychology, and have been interested in psych since high school. My primary research interests in language development, sign language, social psychology, and child development. I’m excited to learn more about sign language and the brain!
We are all interested in learning how Sign Language is acquired by young children and how it is coded differently in our brains compared to spoken/written languages. We are interested in finding out how sign language acquisition can help infant brain development and how that can be beneficial for them in the long term.
